That's not really what it means, on either count.

There are lots of contexts it can be used in, but one could be:

Man finds out his wife has been cheating on him.
Friend: "Are you going to stay together."
Man: "I don't know, we are taking it one day at a time."

The whole point is, you don't really hear people say "one-day-at-a-time relationship". The poster is just using the expression to describe it.

firstly it's a "one-time-at-a-day relationship", the relationship is part of it, so at least it's two words.

I understand your point though, it is hyphenated.
