Thread: Interlex users - Top 300 most common Russian words

For those who use Interlex vocab tutor ( http://www.vocab.co.uk/ ),
I created a file with the top 300 most common Russian words in Interlex format with their corresponding English equivalent.
If anybody is interested in them, PM me and I will e-mail you a copy.

This first batch of words are kinda rudamentary, but I am working on more words.

I now have the top 500 most popular Russian words and their corresponding English equivalent in Interlex format.

i want but how do you rate a word as common?

I got the list of Russian words here: http://www.artint.ru/projects/frqlist/frqlist-en.asp

Unfortunately, the English equivalent is not given. Thus, I have to look up each word and type it into my Interlex program. It takes forever.

The frequency of these words is based on WRITTEN text rather than spoken language. Some very common spoken words (esp. foods) are not even in the list like "помидор", "креветка", "персик" or "апельсин".

5000 most frequent lemmas cover 82.0604% of word forms in texts.

Interesting. I wonder how that compares with other languages.

I read that in Italian, the most common 3000 words make up nearly 95% of normal speech. Also, keep in mind that that word list lists does not list verb pairs together, but rather as seperate entries.

Ugh! Now up to 600 words. I am crawling on my hands and knees now.

I am now up to 700 words. Just another 4300 to go.

The link doesn't work for me, but if its the one I think it is, I have the first 2000 done in an Access database. The English definitions are taken from Brown's book.

Everyone knows Давай! is the most commonly used Russian word in speech.

I think the most Давайs I ever heard was at a football (soccer) match between Dinamo Kazan and CSK Moscow.

I now have the top 1000 words in Interlex format! Woooot!

Thanks to the help of another MR member, I now have 1001 through 2000 in Interlex format.
