    have stress

    Privet.

How do you tell in Russian:
    1. I am stressed / I have stress (here with the word stress I mean the bad feeling about something that happened or will happen e.g. exams, announcement of bad news).
    2. You shouldn't get stressed.

    Спасибо

    1. "Я в стрессе" / "У меня стресс".
    2. "Избегайте стрессов".

They told me that Russians never use the expression "У меня стресс". Is this true?

It seems really so. I don't know why but we Russians prefer to speak about stress in the third person. That's why I had a hard time trying to translate that phrase. It sounded so awkward but believe me it's the closest.

Lampada, в Вашем переводе речь идет уже не про внутреннее состояние человека, а про положение, в котором он находится. А так да, звучит гораздо естественнее.

    2. You shouldn't get stressed.

    Не переживай ты так.

If I am not wrong this is translated as "Don't worry"

    I cannot tell them apart.
But "Don't worry" could be also "не волнуйтесь", I think, which is said about some petty thing.
