 Object Complement instumental
He was an engineer Он был инженером
He was clever Он был умным
He will be an engineer Он будет инженером
He will be clever Он будет умным
He made this task difficult Он сделал эту задачу трудной
His father has brought him up courageous Отец воспитал его смелым

I imagine him as a tall man. - Я представляю его высоким.
He presented himself as a strong man. - Он показал себя сильным.

Note: "был" and "будет" can take sometimes Nominative as well, but Instrumental is more common for them. However, there are some nuances with their usage.
