We say:

Чей это комната?
Чей это дом?
Чей это кольцо?
Чей это коньки?

Why doesn't the demonstrative pronoun "это" agree in gender and number with the nouns it modifies? Why not:

Чей эта комната?
Чей этот дом?
Чей эти коьнки?
