Exercise for to have / to not have and genitive and a short text for the cases

I am a beginner in learning the russian language and did some exercises today to understand the cases.

First exercise is about the genitive case and the "to have / to not have" case.

It would be really cool, if someone can look at this, and tell me if there are any mistakes :)

1)
У учителя есть учебник, но нет ручки.
У Бориса есть сестра, но нет брата.
У Нины естъ друг, но нет погругы.
У Саши есть гитара, но нет балалайки.
У Дедушки есть квартира, но нет дома.
У Бабушки есть радио, но нет кассетника.
У Девочки есть карандаш, но нет ручки.
У Оли есть есть бабушка, но нет дедушки.
У Мамы есть телефон, но нет мобилника.

2)
У тебя есть телефон? У меня нет телефона.
У нево естъ гитара? У нево нет гитары.
У Ольги есть подруга? У неё нет подруги.
У дедушки естъ сада? У нево нет сада.
У Саши есть семья? У нево нет семьи.
У учитель ест мел? У нево нет мела.
У Степана естъ билет в театр? У нево нет билета на театр. (театре?)
У бабушки есть квартира? У неё нет квартиры.
У Папы естъ машина? У нево нет машины.
У Сестра есть друг? У неё нет друга.
У мамы есть кассетник? У неё нет кассетника.
У дяди есть телевизор? У нево нет телевизора.


Second exercise is from my russian learning book. I should talk about myself, my family and ask my partner about his name, family and so on.
I am not sure, if I made it correctly, so it would be cool if you guys can take a look at it :)

Как тебя зовут? А сколко тебе лет?

У тебя есть брат и сестра?
Как их зовут? А как им лет?



Sorry for my bad english, I am from Austria, so my native language is german. :)

Genitive/accusative case endings with the sound -ово or -ево are actually spelt with a г:
У дедушки есть сад_? У него нет сада.

Remember the spelling rules - no «ы» after к, г, х, ш, щ, ч or ж!
У Нины есть друг, но нет подруги.

I think the correct construction is «билет в театр» here, but I could be wrong:
У Степана есть билет в театр? У нево нет билета в театр.

You've mixed your cases up here:
Его зовут Павел, ему 14 лет.
Её зовут Нина, ей 12 лет.
Его зовут Емир, ему 27 лет.
Accusative case for «___ зовут», dative case for «___ [№] год/года/лет».

Also watch out for using the right question words:
сколько им лет?

Finally, make sure to remember your soft signs! You've written «естъ» with a hard sign a few times - the letters look similar, but they're different. You need to write «есть» instead. :)

Similarly:
очень
сколько
играть

Anyway, here are my answers to your questions:

Меня зовут Лайонел. Мне 21 год. У меня есть одна сестра, её зовут Эми и ей 18 лет. У меня нет братьев.

I have another few questions:
For example, I want to say my friend is from Russia, then I use genitive case right?
Like:
У меня есть друг, ево из России.

And another thing I don't understand is:
You wrote: "У меня нет братьев" -> Why not: "У меня нет брата" ?

And how can I say: "My hobbies are..."? :)

You do use the genitive case, but you only need to put the word «Россия» into the genitive:
У меня есть друг, он из России.
(Also remember, even if «он» was in the genitive, it would be spelt «его» not «ево»!)

Братьев is the genitive plural of брат.
У меня нет брата = I don't have a brother
У меня нет братьев = I don't have any brothers.

I see, but what is the difference between братьев and братья? It's both plural?

Мои хобби - это...

братья is the nominative plural, so you could say:
У меня есть братья = I have [some] brothers
братьев is the genitive plural, and the genitive is used in constructions with «нет»
У меня нет братьев = I have no brothers

I think the simplest way to say "my hobbies are" is:
Мои увлечения: [and then list them].
There's also a word «хобби» in Russian, I think you could substitute it for «увлечения» here. Note that «хобби» is indeclinable though, which means that ALL its forms are the same (whether they're singular or plural).
EDIT: Lampada's answer's probably better on the hobbies question, he's Russian :)

Actually, the word хобби is not much used in Russian. What is your hobby? can translate as "Чем ты занимаешься?", "Чем ты увлекаешься"? "Какое у тебя увлечение?"

Well now I'm confused... I'm pretty sure I've seen хобби used a few times... maybe it depends on age/geographical location...

It's quite ok to use this word. It was used even in the time of USSR, but some, to some extent, "simple" people might not understand its meaning then, and there's a brilliant joke about that.

A foreign delegation came to a soviet factory. The members were walking around when they came across a common worker. They wanted to ask him a few questions, so they started with asking what his salary was. "Well", says the worker, "I get paid about 100 roubles...", but then he sees the commie party worker making scary eyes, and adds "... a week!". The delegation is satisfied, then they ask him what his living conditions are. "Well", he says, "I got one room in my flat...", and then he turns round to see the commie party worker, and adds "... looking to the East, one room looking to the West, one room looking to the North, and another one looking to the South." The delegation is satisfied again. Then they ask, "So, what's your hobby?" "30 cm", replies the worker and then sees that the commie party worker's turned all red. "In diameter!", he corrects.

про философию мы не говорим полезна/бесполезна, по-русски скорее бы сказали "практична", хотя Ваш вариант допустИм.

Мои увлечения - это велоспорт, плавание, ПРОСЛУШИВАНИЕ МУЗЫКИ и ИГРА на гитаре. И, конечно, изучЕНИЕ русского языка.

I just wanted to say that you could also use a verb:
Я увлекаюсь велоспортом, плаванием и игрой на гитаре. И, конечно, изучением русского языка!

Even if there were such people, I'm sure that the main target of this joke was the word "хобби" itself. It does sound ... strange ("мои хобби", urgh.)

LOL! The humor doesn't work very well in translation, because the joke is that the uneducated worker doesn't know the "trendy foreign word" хобби, and has misunderstood it as a slang term for the penis -- thus he answers with a boast about its size. (Russian has several rude words for the penis that all begin with the letter х. The mildest of these is probably хрен, which is semi-euphemistic and literally means "horseradish root".)

An approximately similar joke in English would be to have a professor of logic using the word "fallacy," and an uneducated person misunderstands the word as having something to do with "phallus" or "fellatio."

Or, one could make a joke about a pair of Russian doctors visiting an experimental medical facility at Caltech or MIT or wherever, and they see an injured soldier being fitted with a state-of-the-art "bionic" arm to replace the one he lost in Iraq.
The first Russian says to the second Russian: Ну, как? ("Well, what do you think of that?"), and the American soldier, thinking the question was addressed to him, answers: "No, it's the same old one I've always had!"
