    To Burn

    Hello,

It seems like there are many different ways to say "burn" in Russian.

Can someone please translate the following examples?

    Burn to the Ground.
    To burn toast
I lit the curtains on fire
    I got a sunburn

any other helpful examples would be appreciated.. thanks

    Сжечь дотла/сгореть дотла (?)
    Сжечь тост
    Я поджёг занавес(к)и
    Я обгорел

Generally "гореть, сгорать/сгореть" (imperfect/perfect) is a passive process (something is burning), and "жечь, сжигать/сжечь" is an action (someone (or smth) burns something - lits it on fire, for example). There's also "палить/спалить", it's similar to "жечь" in usage.
