Thread: BLACKOUT - Instrumental with and without C

Looks like I have a blackout concerning the instrumental case

"Мы проводим Новый год водкой" ..
Наряжаем ёлку всей семёй...
Я пишу ручкой...

The third one is very obvious...it is kinda tool I'm using in order to write

But 1 and 2 is not very obvious in my opinion. In this case, Vodka must BE ESSENTIAL in order to leave the year behind???


If I write C ...it would like spending new year with the bottle of Vodka in my hand or what??

Как бы там ни было, "с водкой" будет означать, что водка либо является одним из членов провожающей компании, либо что эта самая компания провожает Новый год и водку.

я ошибся...хотел написать СТАРЫЙ ГОД, а не новый...

Значит, когда наряжают ёлку со всей семёй (хотя это не так) - семья провожает меня??

ok..it must be something that might be refering to the content

christmas -> families ....so families are ESSENTIAL to decorate a tree

Мы наряжали ёлку со всей семьёй would mean that you and the entire family did decorate the tree, but you are not part of this family.

To put it simply, "c" or "со", when used with instrumental case, can be translated as "and" in most cases.

Мы наряжали ёлку со всей семьёй = "We and the entire family were decorating the fir tree".

Technically, depending on the context, it can be also understood "We were decorating the fir tree and its entire family" .

Just remember, if you do something семьёй, бригадой, группой, командой etc., you do it all together as a family, team, group etc.

If you do something с семёй, группой etc, you do it together with this this family, group.

Проводим, проводить имеет много значений, в том числе to pass time.
