    Asking/Giving Directions

These puzzled me in chapter I just finished in my textbook.

    1.

    Как проехать к ...?
    Как проехать на...?
    Как доехать до...?

Any rule on when to use any of these three?

    2.

The answer the textbook gives to one problem is:

От станции <Театральная> доедешь до станции <Беларусская>.

    Why

I'm not sure when to use the first two. Actually, I think you don't need them. Just use "Как доехать до...?" It's the most common version.

    на троллейбусе

Does "на" + prep. in cases of transportion fill the same roll as "по" + dative in cases of communication?
Do you mean phrases such as: по телефону, по Интернету, по аське - vs. на троллейбусе, на автобусе, на машине. If so, you are right. We generally use на meaning 'by means of' in cases of transportation and по with the same meaning in cases of communication.

The difference is in the point of your destination.
Как проехать к ...? (to smth. - often about any standalone object)
Как проехать на...? (in the middle of smth.)

    1) Как проехать на cтанцию метро "ххх"?

    2) Как проехать к Большому Театру (к школе, к метро, etc.)?
You can't say "Как проехать на Большой Театр?". It sounds like you're going to go right on the roof og the building. The same with "Как проехать в Большой Театр?" (sounds akward).

Sometimes these phrases are interchangable ("на" often can be replaced with "к").
    Как проехать к улице Пупкина?
    Как проехать на улицу Пупкина?

I only just now realized that my comment could be taken that way, provided it was read by the wrong person...
