Here is an issue I have with the english language, that translates in the russian language as well.

In french we say

First step for preparing - The first step taken in order to prepare something

First step to prepare - The first step on the way to prepare something

Я не знаю, как лучше обьяснить... Значительной разницы нету...

"Для" не употребляется непостредственно перед глаголами. Если нужно употребить "для" с глаголом, то используется следующая конструкция:
"для того чтобы +[глагол]" или просто "чтобы +[глагол]"
In this case it would be "первый шаг для того чтобы приготовить" -
Another way is to replace the verb with an appropriate noun like Remyisme and Leof did and it's often better.
