ENGLISH > RUSSIAN TRANSLATION HELP NEEDED!

    Hi,

I have searched the internet for the correct and precise Russian interpretation of these words:-

THE WORLD AND EVERYTHING IN IT

From the online translators, it seems the word "THE" does not have an equivalent (?), and they otherwise present each word in the same order (it concerns me that the correct Russian translation of this complete sentence may re-arrange the word layout, as in other languages?).

There are also differring versions of "IN IT": both "B eM" & "B 3TOM" have been advised.

I hope a native Russian speaker can give me the correct translation and the precise layout of each word (I note the translations for "EVERYTHING" and "ALL" appear the same in Russian - are there any differences? Also, do lower and higher case - "e" and "E" for example - make any difference at all?).

Thank you very much for your time - I hope you can help.

This is my thranslation: Мир и всё, что в нём
Yes, we don't have articles in russian language
There is no difference between 'е' and 'Е'. The rules of the using small and capital letters are almost the same as in english

    Thank you very much indeed!

However, in my research today I have found a more accurate translation to be:-

Мир и всё, в нём = The world and all/everything in it.

I appreciate this may not make as much sense in Russian by omitting the "что", but by leaving it in the words go: "The world and all/everything THAT in it", which does not make much sense in English!

Perhaps the words can be modified to read "...everything THAT IS in it?", which would make sense both in Russian and English....???

Could you or anyone else add anything to these thoughts?

I'm also noticing that "Мир" can mean both THE WORLD and PEACE - is there any way of modifying it so it means, specifically, THE WORLD and not PEACE ?

Obviously you've just begun looking at the Russian language. Russian does not conjugate the verb 'to be' in the present tense as such. The forms of the 'to be' in the present tense are: am, are, is. So the sentence you saw "Мир и всё, что в нём" does mean "The world and everything, (that is) in it." I hope that that helped you.

You're right, I'm a total novice to the Russian language - one must start somewhere!

I think the problem also is that I am being thrown off by using various online translators, and they all produce different results whether interpreting this sentence from Russian to English or vice-versa (including "Peace and all that in it"...!).

You both sound like you know what you are talking about, however, so I guess you must be right.. thanks again!

Only if you mean "world" as "universe". In that case you can say вселенная and put everything in feminine gender: ВСЕЛЕННАЯ И ВСЕ, ЧТО В НЕЙ

p.s. This phrase is grammatically correct, but sounds a little unnatural in Russian.

No actually it does make sense in english and russian Мир и всё, что в нём mean 'The world and everything that's in it.'

You really are going to have to learn to not trust online translaters as they are really craррy.

Also, its just like "There, their, and they're"

If you say мир and mean world, people will understand you perfectly, if you say it as peace, it's the same. You're going to be understood as long as you use it right.

English has ambiguities as Dog Boy pointed out.

Can I can the man who's holding a can and can count?
I'm going to buy two drinks too!

Those make perfect sense despite the fact they have words pronounced the same.

You need to stop using a translator. They suck. All of them. If you were able to design a translator that worked perfectly, you could retire instantly. Grammar is too complicated, and often times what you wrote can be interpreted differently when it is out of context, which is how a translator views it. I suggest you get a book, maybe a priavte tutor and learn it that way if you are serious.
