may they meant бор...and it took one of those crazy cases to make it из бру....like из дому instead of из дома

No, there is no "o" elimaination in "бор". They wouldn't use this word anyway becuase it's archaic.

I though that short words with O in them lost it....oh well. It must be another one of those crazy russian exceptions.

if that is real, the last two things must be abbreviations, like КПСС(б).

I was talking to one of my russian pals...and they couldnt figure it out either. But she had a hunch it was something political.
