These phrases are later, when Vera visits her mother (Lana's grandmother), and talks to her about Robbie, her husband.
Grandmother: "Where is Robbie tonight?"
Vera: "Good question. I can't believe him. He doesn't... I understand that coming to see you with me is hard, tense, whatever, but she is leaving tomorrow! She's going to leave for six months! And he just waves her away like it's no big deal. She's Robbie's only daughter. I don't know what to say to that, that kind of... disinterest. Apathy."
Grandmother: "But he cares so much... for you and for her. He learned Russian for you. He speaks it so well. And he dotes on that girl."
Vera: "Yeah, but that’s not everything. And, well, Svetlana... I worry for her. I’m sorry that she’s caught in the middle, but if she stays I won’t be able to handle any of this. Until August should be long enough for Robbie and I to figure it out. We’re both trying, but whether or not we’ll get a divorce… it’s impossible to tell."
