If your friends are good people, then you are a good person.
If your friends are bad people, then you are a bad person.
For me, my family are my friends.

Говорят, что вы знаете человека его друзьями.
Если ваши друзья - хорошие люди, то вы - хороший человек.
Если ваши друзья - плохие люди, то вы - плохой человек.
Для меня, мое семейство - мои друзья.

This topic reminds me of another Russian Proverb. I was wondering if someone could help me, please, to translate this into Russian:

"Pray to God but continue to row for shore."

I remember hearing this proverb on the TV show "Carnivale" which was on HBO, but I couldn't understand exactly what she was saying as it was spoken in Russian.

There is a nice old Russian proverb with the same sense: "На бога надейся, а сам не плошай" (Trust in God, but don't be a dope). But you surely can translate it verbal: "Молись Богу, но при этом продолжай грести к берегу"
