Thread: Is this Russian Slang?

I'm just starting to learn Russian. Sometimes my girlfriend puts something unusual in an email like:

Ggggggg gggggg)))))
Love you)))

What is she expressing here? "Ggggggg gggggg)))))"? Is this a Russian slang expression? If so, what does it express?

It's no slang. It just represents the sound of a laugh. A very particular kind of laugh, like chuckle or giggle.

хахаха/hahaha -usual laugh
хихихи - "supressed" sort of laugh, usually then you should not laugh. mouth is not wide open and "ха" sound becomes something like "хи" through smile. (note, "giggle" is translated to russian as "хихикание")
гагага/гыгыгы - sort of "vulgar", strong laugh. vocal cords are stressed and thin "х" hardens to something like "г".
so, "гггг" is supressed гыгыгы.

Looks like she's a teenager. A creepy giggle like that doesn't go well with otherwise serious and obliging phrase of "I Love You". There are tons of ways to demonstrate affection other than that she used.
