    a quickie

    Quick translation. How do you translate the following into Russian.

    If I don't get home by midnight, I will turn into a pumpkin.

    My guess

    Если я не вернусь домой к полуночи, я превращусь в тыкву.

    Я взял палку и нож, мелки и бумагу и направился к холмам.

    Absolutely correct.

    I've looked for pumkin in Lingvo:
    сущ.
    1) Тыква ( обыкновенная )
    Syn: gourd , squash II
    2) амер. сленг. важное дело; важный человек ( обыкн. some pumpkins )

    Is it really so? (the second meaning)

    Never heard anything remotely like that 2nd usage.

    However, it is a particularly common term of endearment.
