    What is your father's name?

    How do I say this? "What is your father's name?"

    Yes. I'd say "Как зовут вашего отца?" too..
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    DDT прав - зависит от контекста. Контекстов я вижу два:
    1. Если тебе действительно хочется узнать имя отца. В таком случае:
    a) "Как зовут вашего отца?" / "Имя отца?" (более официально).
    b) "Как у тебя отца зовут?" (разговорный стиль).

    2. Если ты хочешь узнать отчество человека. "Как ваше отчество?" - это более официальный и деловой стиль. Так могут спросить при приеме на работу. В повседневном общении между приблизительно равными по возрасту людьми обычно употребляются такие варианты:
    a) А по отчеству как?
    b) Как тебя по отчеству?
    с) А по батюшке? Как тебя по батюшке?
    d) У тебя отчетство какое?
    и т.д.

    Например:
    - Тимур, я забыл... Как тебя по отчеству?
    - Тимур Аркадьевич.
    - А, ну конечно же!

    This is the one I think I was trying to get. To clarify my question, I was trying to ask my friend the first name of his father. I knew his father many years ago but I had forgotten his name. So it was a very informal question.

    "Как зовут твоего отца?", though perfectly normal and usual, is, in a sense, ambiguous. You will get either the first name or "имя-отчество". The latter is more likely in this case.
    "Как имя твоего отца?" will almost certainly get you the first name.
