Если бы кто-нибудь уверял/уверил его, то... - yes, but Russian has in stock many spare techniques .

3. What case is “потери” in? Shouldn’t it be “после он терял кафедры”?
The structure here is the same as "после начала игры", "из-за поломки машины". Pure genitive. Otherwise it could be "После того как он потерял кафедру...".
