You are correct, I had forgotten where this one came from. It is not a proverb but....more of a slogan that is now in common speak? I can't think of the correct term I want to use.
Okay, I think I am older than the average bear here on this forum; but, some of you might be as old if not older than me... I know the phrase comes from around 1942; but, I think that it is more of a common phrase these days.
It might be that kids today don't even know this phrase, just 'old' people like me.
Correct or no???

Ahhhh... you're 23??? Pray tell.. if you do not mind... are you male, female, Russian, American what?? If you rather not state on the board, please send me a PM.Originally Posted by Lt. Columbo

male and from england, but im living in moscow these days
the real question is, who's not a fan of the show! actually when i was younger and had no power of the remote i had no choice but to watch columbo. apart from his cool acting and glass eye, i guess there is some nostalgia in there too. so yes, a fan i suppose.
At least you are young enough that you had a remote! "I" was the remote in my householdOriginally Posted by Lt. Columbo
Did you know... Columbo's first name was never mentioned in the series? When asked for his first name he replies "Lieutenant".
But, on the DVD you can slow the frames down and see his ID badge and his signature and his first name is.... do you know??
Do you care???

i never thought about it before, but now i feel i must know. please share (and in return you can enjoy this picture)
I think for non-speaking Russian people it would be better to see both an original text in Cyrillic and its transliteration. Try to see (or try seeing? Can't get catenatives verbs yet) this site. For example all the biggest mobile operators in Russia use the variant of transliteration in their SMSes just like this site translates by default. =)

strong eye for detail
dont suppose you know what his wife's name is? (does anyone even know that??)
Actually, there was to be no Mrs. Columbo in the beginning of the series. It was just suppose to be a thing he did to make the people he was interrogating feel more at ease or something. Then I think as the series went on they started to have him talk to her on the phone and develop her more as a “real” character. But I don't believe that they ever revealed her name. I remember he had a dog too. I don't think he had a name either come to think of it.Originally Posted by Lt. Columbo
Do you know that he lost his eye at the age of three to cancer?? I remember there was a story about him that as a kid he offered his glass eye to an umpire saying something like "you need it more than I do." I don't know if it is an urban legend or if it is true.

after having a look (here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbo) it seems that the dog's name was actually 'Dog'...
i had wondered about his eye, although i dont really think it's even noticeable
