    Paradism

    I was listening to this song the other day and was wondering about how to translate this line, " Forget about the way he held you tonight..."

    I was unsure about how I would put forget because I found the reflexive version of to forget about...забываться and got totally mixed up.

    Would it be something like, " Забудь о (может быть про? Я не очень уверен...) как он тебя держал ноча..."

    И как сказать "Answering to nobody...Никому отвечая"

    Помогите мне Пожалуйста!!

    Спасибо Большое!

    Поцелуй если знаете песню!!! :P

    Context....as in....? I completely don't get that, I remember someone else saying that in another post I made and I was just as confused there. A guy holding a girl, like girlfriend and boyfriend, like clutching, just like holding someone, like hugging. You know? I just don't how else you could interpret that.

    So it's like forget how that guy held you tonight, there isn't any other context!! Why can't Russian be simple? It seems every time I put a seemingly simple phrase up, I get something obnoxiously long.

    I mean, is there no simpler way to say it? Does Держать not work? I mean...sigh...I'm definitely not looking for complexity whatsoever, I'm looking for the easiest way to stay stuff in the last amount of words- nothing fancy; that being a total 180 from how I am in English. So yeah.

    Blargh. Thanks tho =)

    held = обнимал.

    Забудь о том, как он тебя обнимал.
    Забудь его объятия.

    For me the original statement in English is ambiguous. It is not clear to me exactly when she was held. Maybe she was held every day last week by some other guy and now she is being asked to forget about it for tonight only.

    In any case, remember, utork, that these are native Russians helping you out and with ambiguous English it is not easy for them to understand the full meaning of a sentence right off the bat. Be patient and you will be rewarded!

    Not all words can be directly translated, so держать does not work, it is for the purpose of holding or keeping, as in to hold a cup or to keep a car in the garage. They have a different word for "hugging" - обнимать

    я держал её - would probably mean "I held her", as in "by the neck". No cute hugging connotation enters the mind.
