Thread: Nik Kershaw lyrics - cant' understand

Hi.

I mean his song "The Riddle" - it's incredible to my mind to understand - is this a fairytale, or idiom or something else? I understand words theirselves, but can't understand meaning completely. What was the origin?

You know, every time someone asks me a question about "what do such and such lyrics mean", I usually throw back "The guy is just writing some rhyming nonsense that's intentionally hard to understand to hide the actual lack of meaning." And most of the time it's true. Of course, you can "interpret" the song however you would like.

Exactly! This one reason that I use for proof that good Lyrics are not all that important as a factor for writing a "hit song". It is only important that the words do not take away from the music or that they flow.

It's funny that I was thinking about that song just a day or so ago - I was telling myself that I should google the lyrics to it, thing that I wanted to do long ago but kept forgetting. But by the time I stumbled upon this thread I'd forgotten about it again. Now things will be much easier for me.
