    New Years Engagement Announcement

I will be proposing to my Russian girlfriend after New Years night. I will be doing this in private of course but I would like to make the announcement right after and to say it in Russian. Please feel free to change any words or alter sentences to best suit the moment to what you think will be best. Also if possible, please show where the stressed vowel is with a bold or italic letter. I would like to pronounce this as best as possible. Thank you, I greatly appreciate it! (don't worry, she will say yes )

Attention everyone! It is my pleasure to tell you the great news. I've known Elena for 4 years now. And in this year I made a commitment to be with her for a very long time. I finally proposed to Elena to be my wife, and also to be the father of Mitya. Well, her answer is yes. I hope you will welcome me into your wonderful family, as I will welcome you into mine.

A toast to a New Year and to a New union of family.

    My congratulations, Mute!
Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!

But don't forget to ask her in private.
Get her definite "yes" on the matter before announcement, and ask her is it ok to announce that.
Just to make some thinks easier for you

    But anyway - good luck.
Send me a PM if you need me.

Wow that was quick! Thank you Basil, I will print this and start practicing until New Years. By the way, I like your Yevgeni Leonov Avatar. My favorite movie to watch again and again is Kin Dza Dza

I will ask her permission first Ramil. She has a very small family of her Mother, Sister, and Sister's boyfriend. Wish me luck :P

I thought it was прошу? Is it an optional thing?

Mute: A word of advice. I'm guessing you did NOT want to ask Elena to be the *father* of Mitya? That's how it reads right now in English and Russian. Mother, perhaps?

    Good luck.

With the name Mitya, I think that is Elena's son So he is proposing to be her son's father

Does that sound like the right way to say that Mute wants to be Mitya's father, kalinka?

You're right, it is прошу, and it's not optional.

Well, then someone should help the poor man before he causes a scandal. In one sentence, I think the English has to be: "I finally proposed that Elena should be my wife, and I the father of Mitya." Do we need to use чтобы here? Я наконец предложил, чтобы Елена стала моей женой, а я отцом для Мити.

    We do.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

I didn't pay attention on this error while translating (and translated it into Russian as well ). So, I think, if it isn't your formalism, nobody even notice it. :P But, anyway, since you found it, Mute ought to use your version of this sentence.

I'v made a correction in the translation in connection with the newly opened circumstances.
I am glad that you like my avatar. I took it than Ramil's eye became too annoying for me. (It plays on my nerves for some reason) . And being serious, I wish you luck too.

What's this about my formalism Do you mean to say fastidiousness?

Sorry, may be "formalism" is the wrong word here. And I have absolutely no idea what "facetiousness" mean . Anyway, I didn't mean any offense, I was just kidding.

I figured you were kidding, I just didn't know what you were talking about (I think you meant: "If it weren't for your nit-picking, no one would've even noticed")

I knew 'Прошу' sounded a bit funny hehe. No worries Basil, I really appreciate your help. I might have to give you all the credit when I come back and show Elena this post.

Yeah Challenger, I definately would NOT want to cause a scandal lol. So I will go with your suggestion to use чтобы.

I was just thinking... It may just be Elena's mother and sister during the announcement, would asking for the attention be too much for ony two people? Should we change it?

    Thanks everyone :P :P :P
