нокаут это не спорт, это спортивный термин из бокса, пришедший к нам из английского языка. Нет такого спорта, как нокаут.

There is no sport like knock-out, it's just a sportive word which came to us from English therminology.

The only нокаут I know is when the defeated boxer is on the floor and can't stand up.
    Я так думаю.

That's what I was hoping. I have a book listing sports written in Russian, and it mentions this knockout. I couldn't figure it out. I thought I wasn't reading it right. спасибо Leof!

Maybe you messed up the book sections?

    Анекдот в тему:
Дама, после получасового разговора с боксером:
    - Скажите, а вы бывали где-нибудь, кроме Нокаута и Нокдауна?

He wasn't refering to a "Knockout" as a sport.

Its not uncommon in English to say something like "Home Run, Is that the same like the sport baseball" - IE Does a home run in your sport mean the same thing as baseball?

Or "Halo the movie?! Is that the same like Xbox Halo".

    Just, so you know.

I still don't understand. How homerun (just in case: I know what it is) can mean "the same thing as baseball"? It doesn't have sense for me.
Anyway could you explain the meaning of the original question? "Does 'нокаут' (in Russian) mean the same thing as 'knockout'"? Simple translation question, right?

well I guess to make it more understandable he coulda said something like "Is knockout the same term used in Russian boxing" or something, but I understood what he meant.
