We are aware of that, and we'll try to help if we can. Just try not to use the word "translation" when you're talking about transliteration, because they are nothing alike.

And it won't help you to learn Russian. If you're trying to study pronunciation this way it's not the best technique! On the other hand if you want to familiarize yourself with Cyrillics, transliteration can be of some use. You may try to write down English words in Cyrillics (er.. in Russian letters).

PS. European alphabet?.. Arghh! I do understand TATY and vox05.

Ah what I meant by that was using letters from the european alphabet, and not making an english word.

It's not the "European alphabet" it's called the Latin / Roman alphabet.

And writing words of one language in the script of another is called transliteration

And Spain, Germany, France, England are the only countries in Europe?

Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Belarussian all use the same alphabet (which is called Cyrillic) and they are all European countries.

And don' forget about the Greek alphabet.

I laughed when I saw Euros for the first time. They had to put ΕΥΡΩ on the banknote just because it's the only alphabet in EU which uses different letters

Well, I mean if the Euro is the currency of Greece, then the Greeks have the right to have the word written in their script. When Bulgaria take the euro they'll have to have it in cyrillic too.

I wonder whether would they actually do that...

And, there are Georgia and Armenia as well that use their own alphabet and also are striving towards the integration with the EU. So there would have to be 5 alphabets.

Even German and Spanish (and probably french?) have modified letters for their specific language that differ enough to say there is no European alphabet

Even Swedish has vowels with circles over them)

Yes, they have to. Apparently they will be adding ЕВРО onto the banknotes in 2010, and that's probably before Bulgaria even starts using the currency. But then again, there are lots of euros in Russia, so it will be nice for the Russians too And regarding Georgia and Armenia, they are both at least ten years away from joining the EU (and that's an early estimate) and even then it would be many more years before they joined the single currency.

How does the UK get away with being in the EU yet not using euros?
    I guess its not obligatory?
