Thread: Ring engraving translation

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site and trying to learn Russian in my spare time at college using the Rosetta Stone software, but without much free time I can't confidently translate an engraving for a ring I want to give a friend as a thank you for something. Can anyone help with this please?

"For glory, fight on the front lines. For victory, fight in the shadows."

Otherwise there may be many variants how to translate this proverb.

Thanks alot Alex, now I just need to find a jeweler that will do Cyrillic engraving.

Only question I have though is what предовой translates to in English, I get the phonetic translation (predovoy) from every site I check it against, but no actual word I know of.

Alex made a typo. It should be "на передовой."

Ahh ok that makes a bit more sense. Would авангард work in it's place however?

Of course it would, you can also say " в авангарде" instead of "на передовой", but in my opinion "на передовой" sounds better =)

Мне не очевидно, что виктория - это победа в русском языке. Мне очевидно, что Виктория - это женское имя или сорт клубники в Поволжье.

... У первого русского императора были все основания говорить про Полтавскую битву и ее последствия: «Совершенная виктория»!
