    "can i have [noun]"?

how would you go about saying "can i have a/the [noun]?"

I have a feeling this may be stretching it...but is something like this possible?

    У меня может быть ключи?

You mean like "Give me the keys" right?

    Many variants are possible

дай мне ключи, пожалуйста! - Give me the keys, please!
передай мне ключи, будь добрым! - Be so kind and pass me the keys!
ключи сюда, ё* тво* ма*ь - Gimme the fu**ing keys!
Hei, rett norsken min og du er død.
I am a notourriouse misspeller. Be easy on me.

    У меня может быть ключи?
I think this means "Maybe I have the keys?"

дай мне ключи, пожалуйста! - Give me the keys, please!
    You can also say
    Пере/дайте мне ключи, пожалуйста.
    Я взял палку и нож, мелки и бумагу и направился к холмам.

mainly, yes. But also, how would you ask for permission to have something. like for example:

A teenager to his mother: May I please have a car?

In terms of grammar, that should be either
    Можно мне, пожалуйста, машину?
    or
    Дай мне, пожалуйста, машину.

But in terms of good Russian, that should be
    Можно мне взять машину?
    or
    Можно мне воспользоваться машиной?

    Oops, wait a minute...
May I please have a car? - zomby_pengy, you mean the teenager asks his mother to buy him a car, not to use the existing car?
    Then I'd say
    Купи/купите мне, пожалуйста, машину
    or
    Может купишь/купите мне машину
Please correct my mistakes if you can, especially article usage.

Oh yeah, I missed that. I thought he meant it within the context of borrowing the car.

    Thanks, Vadim, for the corrections!

ok thanks. I was just curious as to those sentances. I'm kinda trying to learn to actually express words in russian hat are usually implied in their english counterparts.

Well in English it can mean two things:

    1. Am I allowed to have a car?
    2. Will you buy me a car?

    >May I please have a car?

I don't know about you, but not too long ago when my kids were living here, more or less, we were a four-car family. So "a car" is quite ok in the right circumstances!
