"I got a cramp in my right leg in the middle of swimming."

"I got a sideache after running 3 laps around the track."

Please correct my mistakes if you can, especially article usage.

как по русски "get a cramp"?

There is some word that can be used, and fit all cases,
when pain is strong and sudden: скрутило(а). (curl-up?)

"I got a cramp in my right leg in the middle of swimming."

As you wish, it's up to you!
I just want to say, that Russians (and Ukrainians as me) very often use this word (скрутило(а)) in Muscle Pain descriptions, it reflects complexity of nature of Myalgia itself, with or whithout "cramp", but in dictionaries this aspect was drope out.
