    Интернет в России

What is the internet situation like in Russia? Is there good broadband service? Does it go down all the time or is it reliable? Are there a lot of services to choose from? Is it expensive?

Of course there is a lot of service-providers who give accsess to the inet to you. I use the service which allows me the 40 kb/c speed, Its quite cheap (150 rubles per 50 ours (1:00-9:00) or per 10 hours (18:00-1:00)) , reliable, and its my favourite tariff!! But its a dial-up connect!!! If you wanna high speed, buy ADSL modem (~30$) and enjoy the 200-1000 kb/s bandwidth!!!

The situation here is rather ambiguous and varies dramatically from west to east. Broadband services are widespread in big cities and dial-up reigns over the countryside.

In our rather small town (247k) there're only three full-fledged ISPs. All three provide both broadband and diak-up services. About 85% of all internet users here use broadband to get access.

Novgorod Datacom offers 100 Mbit connection to last mile, no monthly payment but every megabyte recieved from without costs 2 cents.

I'm connected to another ISP -- Novline, 20 Mbits, monthly payment is 20 usd, three gigabytes included, each mb after that limit costs 0.7 cents.

In Moscow for instance Corbina offers 2 mbits for 50 bucks per month without having to pay for each mbyte.
Unlimited plans aint common here because of russians are hungry for download and those who offers unlimited access often then cease it cos no network can endure such load.

Each hour of dial-up costs around 37 cents in the daytime and usually for free at night.

The situation differs between regions. In large cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Rostov on Don and others, it's almost perfect for the broadband service is generally available and sufficiently cheap. In Siberia, especially eastern part or the Far East, where the conventional communication lines are limited it's more expensive for it is provided generally over satellites and other wireless services.
In smaller towns dialup is still pretty popular for the broadband internet access is limited and expensive.
I'm living in Moscow and use ADSL 1Mbps with 2Gb prepaid traffic at home and SDSL 100Mbps at work. My home Internet expences are about $30/month.

here, in Novosib, we have a few cable providers, with Internet about 0.02$/meg and monthly payment about 5$. And where is alot of self-made" campus" local networks, with same prices, but free local traffic.

Я думаю, по крайней мере в Москве с этим нет никаких проблем. Качество отличное.

Europe is a big place. Internet coverage is obviously different in the UK and Romania.

In the UK it's probably comparable with the US. There are loads of ISPs, pretty much full coverage for broadband and dial-up. At home my parents pay

I was about to chastise you for even MENTIONING that POS company, but then I realized that they DO still, miraculously, have the highest market share by a long shot. Undoubtedly, this is due to a)the ignorance of my countrymen and b)their insane junk-mailings. The reason they cost so much is probably to support their junk-mail -- it's probably something like the GDP of Portugal they spend per annum on that crap.
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.
