In Russia now it's 2 years
In 2007 - 1,5 years
In 2008 - 1 year
In Israel 3 years http://img.combats.ru/i/smile/sorry.gif
I thought Israel was 18 months or 2 years. Did they change it recently?Quote:

So you see Basurero my boy, on the contrary, war and invasion are actually the defining characters of a civilized nation.
Which brings us to the question Basurero ol buddy ol pal..............Who has New Zealand ever invaded? HmmmmmmMM??
Nobody...that's who!
So there you have it everyone! I have just proved by reason and deduction that New Zealand is an UNcivilized country!!!
I think there is no need in army at all. The people should put their weapons on the ground and never lift it!!! If they do, there will be no wars in the world!!!. (For local conflicts there is a great need in local police - they would investigate crimes, committed by some fellons.)
Al least, in the time of peace the army do nothing!!! the soldiers just paint grass, fences, dig poles and help generals and colonels build up their cottages!!!
I'm a total pacifist and will never raise arm against someone!!
Whats wrong with that phrase?Quote:

Military service is awful. It's pretty much a prison sentence for being born in a country, only less pleasant :|.
Hey, I resent that. We're not uncivilized... just increasingly ignorant. :?Quote:

No offence intended though.
What if someone wants to enslave you and rape your wife and your dauhter?Quote:

Well, you say it loudly first: would you prefer your wife and dauhter to be raped and yourself enslaved?Quote:

There's a difference between that and the organised killing of complete strangers.
If someone is close enough to rape my wife or enslave me, I'm confident I could hit them.Quote:

Who said that joining army is a gesture of patriotism? You call bringing death and suffering in the name of the place where you live a patriotism? You know there is a very good Russian proverb "как аукнется, так и откликнется". Just think about this.
And there is no the word "patriotism" for me. It's a dummy word for me. I live because of life itself and don't need to show any sensless adoration.
Maybe you just have noone to care about.
Patriotism is the root of much evil.
In reallity Americans are becomming LESS ingnorant. As a foreigner in the States, I have noticed the change for the better over the years.Quote:

You will find the root of evil is much deeper than Patriotism for Patriotism in of it's self is benign. You should look to Pride as the root.Quote:

I personally don't believe that if there were no standing armies, there would be world peace. There are too many disputes as it is, take Chechnya for an example. You think that if there was no Russian army and the separists didn't have weapons, people would be strolling around hand in hand singing slightly old-fashioned songs? No, the separists would be still angry and if they had no weapons, they would start throuwing inanimate objects at the occupiers, or strangeling them, whatever. Same goes for the Palestinians, the Tamils, the ETA, etc. etc. No army - less blood, but not more happiness...
Its not about weapons, it's about chemicals in your head, human nature if you will. If there is no AK-47, there is always a rock.
Take this aggression away and we all turn into lazy apathetic bums with not a single care for anything.
It never ceases to amaze me that the threads that are the most useless to argue are the ones that get the most posts. I don't mean that in a snide way, but it's true. We can all sit here and debate this until we're blue in the face, but no one is going to change their opinion. Wheras, if we were talking about, say, whether to use the genative or accusative case in some context, we'd be making much more progres...
