*cough*! Pushkin you say? I read stationmaster, but none of his poems in russian... I tried Dostoevskiy but almost died in the process. I only read Bulgakov's собачье сердце in Russian as a proper book. Oh, and Gogol's "the cape" I also read...

Kalinka, we say: Pushkin is not a poet, he is a God of Poetry, try to read some of his lyrics, your level of Russian is good enough for that. It is just beautiful. And try to read Strugatsky Brothers, aspecially "Пикник на обочине" - I am sure you would love it. And Bulgakov's Master and Margarita.

what kind of forum is this?
Hi petite fleur. Forum is for learning languages. Do you know russian?

Hi everyone.
Name Tony I live in England and I am 32. I work for customer services in a call centre for a mobile phone network. I don't speak any Russian as yet but my girlfriend is Russian so I thought I would secretly supprise her by trying to learn some. Nice to meet you all.
Welcome to the Forum, Tony! Lot's of knowledgeable folks are here who will be glad to help.
If only you could see . . . what I have seen, with your eyes.
Welcome to the forum Tony.

Tony, it is impossible to learn language secretly, but it is nice of you to try to learn.

Hello everyone! I'm new on this forum. My name is Katya, and I'm 19 years old. I was born in New York, but now live in New Jersey. I have been studying Russian on and off for a couple of years, and finally took my first course in college this past Spring semester. I taught myself how to read, write, and speak. (The teacher was really impressed and occasionally openly stated I was one of her best students.) I plan to double major in Political Science and Linguistics. I also speak French and a little bit of German. I've been studying French for about 6 years, and was offered by a professor of the University I was just accepted into to take an Honors French literature course.
I decided to learn Russian because I know many Russians in the area that I live, many of them gymnasts. I happen to know a World Champion trampolinist from Russia. My boyfriend is also Russian. He's from Moscow. Another reason I'm learning it is because I think it's beautiful, and it's said there is someone in my family who's from Russia. I'm not sure how long ago. (My family history is a bit of a mystery). In the future, I of course plan to visit Russia.
Привет, Катенька!
Добро пожаловать на форум! Надеюсь, что тебе здесь понравится и ты найдешь много полезного для себя.

Спасибо большое Lampada. Я тоже надеюсь. <-- Does that make sense? Sorry, I question myself too much when I shouldn't.
Maybe it's strange to say that from my part, but I'm positively surprised by the fact that MANY people here began studying Russian because of the girlfriend-or-boyfriend occasion. Hm, motivation?
