He said Americans are superficial! Is it true?
How deep are Russians anyway? In terms of relationships. Are they more European in mentality or Russians have a mentality of their own?

The American culture is superficial, indeed.
By the way, why do many dear Americans hate Russians????
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.
Fortunately, you are both wrong, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

Any nation and any country maintain a universal proportion between deep and superficial.
The proportion is universal (everywhere, be that Russia, USA or Jamaica):
1% (deep) : 99% (superficial)

Hate? Guess it depends on who you talk to. I think most Americans are indifferent to Russia (and the rest of the world).Originally Posted by Оля

Because he is intellectually lazy and prefers to use stereotypes and massive generalisations where the rest of us use critical thought?Originally Posted by jouna

Scott, I think saying just "someone's remark is stupid" is not very clever either.

For most of the twentieth century the Russian government followed policies with the stated goal of eradicating capitalism. Americans, dwellers in the bastion of capitalism and for whom this economic platform is dear to our hearts, heard this and decided to hate Russians. Not counting the brief period in the 1930s when some of us actually did consider communism as a possible alternative. Even the shoe banging and warnings did not bury us. But basically, it is various kinds of propaganda on both sides that cloud people's better judgment.
Oh, Nikita. Put your shoe back on.Originally Posted by chaika

a lot of countries dislike america, not just russia. i would'nt worry about it too much. the line i hear (and ive heard it from britts, russians, spanish and more) is that america thinks its so important and can just do what it wants etc
Well, he said, Americans are friendly at first, but when you already got problems of your own they leave you fast!
Maybe he judges them too harshly. It is also possible that the US geopolitical policies are focused on their own self-interests.
I just noticed, why is it that when the US supported the independence of Kosovo (against Russia's will), the world follows. But when it comes to South Ossetia, which Russia supports, the world won't recognise it. Quite unfair, I think.
But there are good Russians and good Americans. You just have to look for them because they're hiding.

Isn't Russia recognising the independence of SO and Abkhazia but not Kosovo exactly as hypocritical, except the other way around?
Yes...and so is 99% of humanity I would imagine. So what? Does that make them deserving of hatred? What deep truths and thoughts must one hold to be worthy of your colleague's admiration?Originally Posted by jouna

You tell us! You're Russian aren't you?
Кому - нары, кому - Канары.
I am sorry, sperk. I am not Russian. If I were, I would not ask,
"How deep are Russians anyway? In terms of relationships. Are they more European in mentality or Russians have a mentality of their own?"
because I should have known the answer.
"How deep are Russians anyway? In terms of relationships - this my friend is a silly question. like everywhere in the world, you've got your trash and you've got your wife material. the only conclusion you can draw is that maybe it would be easier to find Ms right in russia owing to the sweet population imbalance. but you'll need to master the genitive plural first
or at least the genitaliative singular.Originally Posted by Lt. Columbo

I'm a girl, and when I say relationships, it means friendships.
I am not interested in looking for a mate, and I do not find any attraction to a person of my own sex.
I do not think that's funny.
It's an honest question about Russian character and mentality.
