Thread: Russian woman's 12th baby weighs in at 7.75 kg

BARNAUL, Russia (Reuters) - A Siberian woman who gave birth to her 12th child -- doing more than her fair share to stem Russia's population decline -- was stunned to find that little Nadia weighed in at a massive 7.75 kg (17.1 lb).

Nadia was delivered by caesarean section in the local maternity hospital in the Altai region on September 17, joining eight sisters and three brothers, a local reporter said.

"We were all simply in shock," said Nadia's mother, Tatyana Barabanova, 43. "What did the father say? He couldn't say a thing -- he just stood there blinking."

"I ate everything, we don't have the money for special foods so I just ate potatoes, noodles and tomatoes," she told the reporter, adding that all her previous babies had weighed more than 5 kg.

The Guinness World Records lists a 10.2 kg baby boy born in Italy in 1955, and a 10.8 kg baby boy who was born in the United States in 1879 but died 11 hours later.

The average weight for most healthy newborn babies is around 3.2 kg (7.06 lb), according to World Health Organisation figures.

Furthermore, what must be the proportions of the mother or father?

I heard that it happens when the parents of usual size have the children which are born huge but then grow up in the normal size like other kids do.

Although, Nikolai Valuev was a big child all his life and now we can see what happened.

It seems like they whould have known for a long time that the baby was going to be big from all the ultra sounds.

Anyway at least she is healthy.

Yes such medal and material encouragement does exist in this country.

But as many such families\mothers are shown by TV all of them say the one: the money wich the government gives to them for children compose the rediculously low summs. Something like 700 rubles for kid per month or even lesser.

Am I the only one who thinks that this country has the resourses to give to every family the little house or an apartment, but somehow it does not do that?

Нет, у Вадима правильно: "Значит, у Юрки 9 тётей/тёть и дядей/дядьёв." Тёть употр. реже. Дядья, дядьёв - разговорная форма. Я сверилась со Словарём трудностей русского языка: "Тётка и тётя совпадают в значении как термины родства, но различаются стилистически: тётка - нейтральное, тётя - разговорное."
