You can clearly see this sign has been changed from Russian Чернобыль to Ukrainian Чорнобиль. You can see the O is newer, and you can see they took the loop of then Ь in Ы then conected the two l l to make И.

But I was wondering if the actual aign has been changed, or someone photoshopped it.

hard to say, but you notice that the two Os are different.

The topic heading is wrong. It was never spelled with a ё. acourse, if some Russian proves me wrong, I'll gladly delete this paragraph.

Too bad they didn't photoshop that guy out of the picture. =[:^0

You are right, the E in "Чернобыль" is a real, honest-to-god E and not Ё.

I like how they couldn't be bothered to change the whole sign and just changed the two letters.

I wonder if they added the apostrophe to the sign to Припять....
