We are, after all, allegedly civilized people and really, isn't life too short to spend it bickering? I would hope that those who find my posts offensive or irrelevant simply elect to ignore me, and I will attempt likewise. The high road is always preferable.

As my knowledge of the language increases, so will my relevancy. Because of this site, I have gone from knowing nothing about Russian at all to being able to sound out words. To be sure, not a huge accomplishiment, but given my time restraints and other limitations, I dont think that is too bad. As a librarian, nothing bugs me so much as being functionally illiterate.

That is an American usage of the word.

Such pickles are called Gerkins in BrEng.

Anyway

"to pickle" means to preserve somthing in vinegar.

E.g. you can have pickled onions, pickled eggs etc.

I'm sure you have such things in Russia.

Соленья are made by keeping veggies in salt brine with spices and herbs.

Things pickled in vinegar are called "маринованые овощи" (маринованые огурцы, маринованые помидоры и т.д.)

E.g. you can have pickled onions, pickled eggs etc.

Actually, I never heard of pickled eggs! How do you peckle them?

I don't know how or why you would pickle an egg. I've only seen them in bars, maybe the drunks eat them? It sounds disgusting.
