New Year - I am sick

    Does anyone feel the same?
The pointless shopping madness, crowds of peolpe everywhere, drunks, cheap Chinese pyrotechincs, the same vulgar shit on the TV every year...
Is that because people fail to find their own joy in their lives so they need an external trigger to pretend that they are happy for one single day? Even if that pretended happiness often consists only of some additional food and another bottle of vodka?
Or do they believe that a change in date can make a change in life?

I dont know, but it seems like every russian song ever written about "Новый год" is really catchy.

    Новый год - ожидание любви!
    Новый год мы так ждали!
    Ожидание чуда! Это новый год.
Старый год забудем! В новым повезет!

Of course every year starts like this. You suppose this year will be the year you drop 20 pounds, or you work overtime and you boss gives you the big promotion. This you will meet 'The one' or adopt a child from Sudan.

Then 365 days later you did none of it but find yourself making plans for next year.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

Maybe I am not Russian enough spiritually (while biologically I am) .
Ожидание любви? I have love of whom I love. I don't want any other love.
Забудем старый год? Why? Was it so much bad?
Maybe not everything is really good but I love and respect my life too much to think that I have the right to call it bad.
I noticed that it is common for Russian people to fail finding pleasure in simple things, in everyday life. But life is 90% small and unsignificant things!
Of course it's just a matter of opinions...

Americans celebrate New Years and it is a good thing too! It is one of the few real holidays in America where people actually are not expected too work!

хех, толи дело раньше.....кулёк конфет в школе дарили, и пару мандаринок. Чтобы сейчас столько же счастья получить надо по крайней мере Jeep-cherekee купить

The earth goes around the sun in a circle. There is no start and there is no end.

The calender is just a man-made timetable broken down into weeks, months, years. It just so happens that we all decided to celebrate the new year on the first day of the month called January. To me, it is just another day.

If anything, it's a good excuse to be with people that you haven't seen in ages (because we're all off school, and can all come back to our home town). Also, its a good way to kiss a pretty girl at midnight

Looks like there is another person who says "I iz like totally bored." What's been up, pisces? Now realize the stupidty of the whole life? I do understand you. Really. I ceased celebrating everything very long time ago because every holiday to me seemed shallow and boring. People just follow stupid traditions, and, frankly speaking, I hate following stupid traditions, so I told myself, "Why fuss?", and I answered, "No bloody reason!" Thus, the principle of mine came to be as pathetical "Get a life!" that I still consider to include in my favourtie mottos.

Hey guys, what's wrong with getting drunk with friends and f*cking around inside and outside? Meh. Just another opportunity to have fun.

I feel the same. I found about 18 fire-works in my yard one year. Annoys me greatly. I'm not so clear why people get drunk either...most of the people I see get drunk on New Years winds up being put into jail for something stupid. Great way to start the new year!

I usually get really drunk and do something stupid on December 18th Day. I haven't celebrated it for three years, luckily, but my insurance still hasn't gone down to under $175 a month!!!

December 18th Day is my made-up holiday when I got a DUI three years ago...! That's why I said I haven't celebrated it in three years.

Do they revoke your licence after your first DUI in California?

I don't know about California, but here in Illinois the first DUI conviction results in at least 1 year loss of driving privledges coupled with community service and potentially a rather large fine.
