    New member!

    Hello all. I've always had a fascination with the Russian language and culture as my great grandparents are from Belarus. I recently found out I have quite a few relatives still over there and thought maybe a visit in the near future would be nice. I managed to teach myself the Russian alphabet today. (well, at least I know the sound each character is supposed to make). It's a start I guess!

    Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be hanging around these parts often. It's tough training yourself to recognize the letters as cyrillic. b, c, p.... grrr...

    EXACTLY. After 20+ years of English, its tough to trick your brain into seeing it as anything else. The only other language I studied was French for a few years, but wasn't nearly as tough as this to get used to.

    EXACTLY. After 20+ years of English, its tough to trick your brain into seeing it as anything else. The only other language I studied was French for a few years, but wasn't nearly as tough as this to get used to.

    When I've been on the forum a lot, I sometimes find myself inadvertently reading signs on buildings and trucks in cyrillic! And that's after 40+ years of western alphabet, so there's hope for you yet.....
