For native Russian Speakers who are also fluent in English

    Hi,

Please ask questions or make comments in English

Please let me first explain why I am asking for assistance. At the request of my teenage daughter, I have been writing a fictional novel. I am at chapter 18 and each chapter is about 8,000-9,000 words long. The main male character is of Russian decent and I am in need of Russian point of view for character accuracy.

From speaking with other people who are not native English speakers, it is my understanding that whatever language you start with in life there are some things that you always do or say in that language.

For example: Counting (especially money) if your mother tongue is not English yet you are in the United States, even for ten years and you have been speaking English all that time, you would still count in Russian.

Do you have any other examples like that of words that you always revert back to Russian for and if so what are they? What do they mean? When would you use them? Please use transliteration.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. Rockzmom.
I only speak two languages, English and bad English.

Swearing pops in mind. Interjections also (something like ouch! wow! etc.)
Send me a PM if you need me.

Thanks Ramil, is it possible for you to give me the transliteration of - ouch!
That would be something like "Oj".
