does anyone know if a UK international driver license is valid in russia, if so, for how long?

Depending on the quantity of these you just may feel fine even without any driving licence. Even with a stolen car and expired visa.

A proper international driving license along with your home country drivers license is legal in any country that signed the Hague Agreement. But this is Russia where the only thing that protects you from the cops is the flashing blue light on top of your car (don't even think about buying one )
