Запомнив все химические элименты, я могу спеть все эти под мотив "The Very Model of a Modern Major General" из спектакля "Пираты Пензанса".

In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    I've got it!

This house was built about 100 years ago or even earlier. Its new owners rebuilt it, it stands roofless, the windows lost their framings and show the interior of every room - various wallpapers, dusty ceilings. The tiled frieze is still in its place - above the windows of the fourth floor, though all the bricks above it have disappeared and some tiles are missing. It has the color of a peacock's feather or a butterfly's wing, its rich surface includes all tints of green, blue, yellow and black, it is shining like a glass. The thought that the frieze would be destroyed was so sad. I dreamed to get at least one of these tiles and then treasure it (the surroundings are changing and sometimes when I come to another place I can't find any evidence or sight of the past, of my childhood). I even tried to count how much money I would give to the workers for a single piece if they carefully brought to me some of the tiles.

I asked one of the workers - seems like they will destroy it nevertheless.

Today I was curious to see how the works are going. The site is surrounded by the iron fence, but the wall with the frieze still can be seen beyond the wire. I carefully looked at the pieces of bricks and plaster which covered the dirty snow near the wall when suddenly I saw it! Only one tile was missing in the part of the frieze above. Seems like it just fell out when the workers crushed the bricks above the tiles. It was a stroke of great luck - the piece was close enough to grasp it. I quickly took it (if I hesitated, the workers would call the police or at least throw a brick to smash my head and prevent my attempt to get at that piece!). At home I washed out the drops of paints and dirt. After 100 years of being in the open air its surface is still shining like a mirror - I can clearly see myself in it!

Though I cut my finger - the glass surface of the piece was sharp like a blade. It would be very curious to die of tetanus. I have no children, but at least my grandchildren could boast about the tile hanging above the fireplace - the one which killed their grandpa!

If they don't destroy the frieze but renovate it, then I will be a happy owner of the only missing piece. But if they do destroy it, then I shall try to grasp as many pieces as I can.
Perhaps I'll even bring to life my earlier idea and buy some pieces. I believe the workers will think me loony if I ask them.

But anyway I have got it!

Good job Leof!!! It is important to take care of the past, it is our heritage! I just don't understand, if you have no children and then die, how can your grandchildren remember you?

PS. be careful with tenses, you seem to be jumping back and forth a bit. English is not as flexible as Russian in this regard
