    Hi, I'm new

    Hi,

my name is Nikolai. I'm 22, and I live in Dallas, TX. I was born in Moscow and moved to the US when I was 10. I still speak Russian at home, and I understand it, but English is now my primary language.

I can speak, but my grammar and spelling is horrible (4th grade level, pretty much).

So I can help anyone will English or simple Russian =)

First of all, can someone tell me how to set up my computer to type in Russian? Also, I need the keyboard layout where the letters correspond to the sounds of the English letters, and not the standard Russian layout.

    thanks!

    Welcome, Nikolai.

You can 'Russify' your PC using these instructions:

I don't quite know what you mean about the keyboard though...
Please correct any Russian language mistakes I make.

    Cyrillic-Phonetic Keyboard layout

I think I understand what you mean by having the sounds matched up on the keyboard; I have the same setup on my PC. Try the directions on this link: http://www.amherst.edu/it/software/lang ... d2000.html . This adds a different keyboard layout (the phonetic one) and makes a minor registry change to make that the default Cyrillic keyboard.

One word of advice, though. It helped me a lot at first to learn by phonetics, but over time it made things more difficult because I was used to a non-standard layout. So when I'd switch to my mac or used my friends' computers, I was REALLY confused as to where the keys were.

But anyhow, I hope it helps. Good luck!
