    My future traveling in America

Hi there. I'll come to america this summer. Now i'm thinking about town/city to live in and finding a job there. I'm going to go to the East Atlantic coast (first of all - it's closest way to Europe (cheapest tickets), also there are many resorts and finding job there is much easier). I ask people which live in america to advise me about place in east coast where I can find cheap living and permanent job in a food or restaurant scope.

I'll be very pleased with your advice.

PS Also correct my mistakes please..
correct me, please. I'm russian native speaker (can I say "I'm russian native"?). Skype: name-xru. ICQ: 227394254. Always glad to speak.

I think you need a work permit to work in the US. Have you got that? It's quite hard to get. Without it you may be exploited and paid very poorly. There is also a chance you might get in trouble with the authorities.

If you have no permit, be careful and find some others in the same situation to get advice from them.

Either way, have a nice trip!

Hanna is correct and it was going to be my first question. What type of Visa do you or will you have?

You can get work without one, but you will be competing against all the other undocumented workers for day labor jobs or maybe work as a busboy or dishwasher in a restaurant. It is harder every day to get work if you are undocumented.

Много американцев тоже ищет работу. Безработица здесь возрастает. Желаю удачи!

I'll go by special program which will give me work permition (form ds2019) and other documents which is necessary. Program called "work and travel USA". Many students come to America (не знаю, какой здесь предлог. По-русски "По") this program. They work as waiters, sellers, housekeepers (service area).
I'll get my work permit after I'll find a job in america. But now I thinking about town/city in which I'll work.

PS Dont forget to correct my post, I know that there are many mistakes above...

I think it's generally easier to find work in a restaurant in big cities but they are more expensive to live in. A lot of people live in the suburbs and commute to the city. A lot of cities will have a web site dedicated to that city. Read the forums and get a feel for the area. Maybe if you say what you want in a location I can offer some suggestions.

    Good luck,

    Scott

Don't you need a program sponsor for this visa? Your sponsor should be able to help you with this. What have they said?

There are two cases in this program. First - I pay money and my firm-provider find a job for me. Second - I find job by myself without any payments. The second case is for me)

I think it's generally easier to find work in a restaurant in big cities but they are more expensive to live in. A lot of people live in the suburbs and commute to the city. I want to earn much money) I can work hard. I will work hard. I will arrange any work without special skills. Also I have one little wish: I want live in the warm place there..)

It really depends on what you are interested in. Maybe Florida? The weather there is pretty warm. Maybe you can get a job at Disney World. There are people from all over the world that go there. Speaking Russian and English is very likely considered an asset.

I do need to warn you that the economy is very bad in the USA. It maybe more of an issue of taking what you can get as opposed to picking what you want.

Interesting visa program. I did not know such a program existed.

Well it depends on whether your are most interested in making money, or most interested in experiencing America.

For making lots and lots of money; go to Alaska and get a job on a crab fishing boat. That pays MULTI $$$$$$$ and you don't need any previous experience, but it's really hard work.

For me, if I was going to get a seasonal job in the USA over spring and summer, then I would go to one of the stylish resorts in New England. Martha's Vineyard or something like that. There should be lots of service industry jobs there, since it is a tourist resort. You can probably make a lot extra money in tips there, since rich people holiday there. There is plenty of swimming, sailing, waterskiing and other fun when you are not working.

But Rockzmom is the expert on the American East Coast; She lives in.... Maryland, I think.

Nerms' idea of Disney is an excellent one. The only down side of Walt Disney World (in Florida) is that it takes FOREVER to get to anywhere else in the U.S. This means you couldn't just hop in a car and go to New York for a weekend.

Link to OFFICIAL job listing at Disney World in Florida

Disneyland is in California (also warmer weather) and you would be able to see more of the West Coast if you were to work there as it is not in the middle of no where.

There are also a number of other "Theme Parks" in Florida and around the U.S. Some are only open for the summer season.

Hanna, Rockzmom, thanks a lot. I have sent resume to "http://www.swandolphin.com" 5 minutes ago. Thanks for the links, DisneyLand is interesting for me. I heard something about Alaska and fish companies) It's not "Work and travel" it's only "Work". I'll try to get job offer in DisneyLand.
    Also I'll think about
Martha's Vineyard or something like that
. But there are big competition between other students from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. ..

It's necessary to enter my "security social number" in Disney's application. I haven't it yet.

What does it mean the field "Establishment" in site registration?

Disney World sounds like the perfect American experience.

It's hard to help you fill in the form without knowing the context. Can you upload the application somewhere where it can be seen?

If we can see the form,. then we can help you to to fill it in correctly, in proper English in a way that would give you the best possible chance of getting the job.

@Rockzmom: But how should he solve the problem with the Social Security number? Would they accept "N/A" or reject the application immediately because that was missing? If so, then this is a non-starter... Maybe there is some kind of generic number he could use?

I'm not certain if this would be something you would be interested in or not and it may be a way around the Social Security Number issue...

You cannot get a social security number. But you can get a ITIN. That I believe is what you are probably gonna end up having to get anyhow. If you work at Disney or any other place in the US. For all intesive purposes its a temporary SS# for tax purposes (i am not a tax attorney thou). Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN)

Before you do that i would email Disney and state your position and ask specifically what you should do.

Or read the plethora of info rockzmom posted. Its better to hold off and be pretty sure you are filling out the application correctly. Its likely if you fill it out wrong they will throw it away. I read thru some of the application...its pretty complicated and lengthy(30-45 min) even for an English speaker. Be sure to state somewhere you can speak Russian as well as English. This is your silver bullet and will set you apart from the other 100,000 applications they get. Welcome to American Redtape. If you make more then $6000 you will get the pleasure of actually having to file a 1040EZ.
