this "pimsleur" I hear so much about......

Ok, from reading this forum I see that Rosetta stone isnt of much use. I downloaded the Princeton course and I see people discussing the Pimsleur language course also. I never heard of that so I searched on the web, it sounds interesting.

My question for those that have actually used the course is:
whats the difference between "Basic" and "Conversational" ???

from this site Ive managed to "mostly" learn the alphabet and I can sound out words, but the problem Im having is.......I dont know what those words ARE once I can read/say them. So, I want to find something where I can learn how to speak, then the reading will come easier when I know what it is Im reading.
Its difficult to just try to remember individual words....of which there are thousands.
Has anyone used the pimsleur program to learn how to speak the language? did you like it? did you learn anything?

    thank you

If I remember correctly the basic is just the beginning of the conversational. You need to get the "complete" Russian Course I II & III.

It won't make you fluent but it will help.
