Thread: Forget the "Grammar Nazis"

Its the "Stay on Topic Nazis" now...
Anyone notice that there have been a lot of posts moved out of other sections and made into whole new threads in a different section?
My "I'd hit that" post and now the one with the pointy shoes.

Obviously someone wants to keep things on topic, but side information is all part of a forum.

Well, I hate it, when people rename their topics to stay 'on topic'. It's annoying, and the first, truly 'on-topic' posts seem bizarre after that.
I prefer honest offtop.

I think it depends.....

If we're talking about a totally unimportant thing like pointy shoes - it's just general chatter and, again, totally unimportant whether it stays on topic or not. So I wouldn't make it more confusing by splitting the thread.

On the other hand, it does happen (regularly ) that someone has a legitimite question about Russian language/culture/something (fill in the blanks), that the thread suddenly derails totally offtopic, and that the original poster never gets an answer to his/her question.

And that is pretty unfair - so yes, by all means should such a post be split.

I kind of agree, allthough the person can always ask the question again.

I can see why staying on topic is important sometimes, but it's natural for conversations to go off at tangents and often very interesting and Id be put off any site who has a really strict policy about staying on topic.

I think if it's REALLY offtopic and it REALLY annoys many people it's a good idea to split the thread but the new one should be named like "Pointy shoes (from: Isn't Europe a country?)" but never like "Ещё одна тема без названия". And it's good to put a link to the new thread in the original thread. In this case it will do no harm. It's a common sense thing.

Hopefully the moderator will read it.

Who cares? As long as the person gets their answer. Otherwise the forum gets boring.

But when someone tells as story about how they bought flowers for their former KGB Agent friend and that person mysteriously gets sick, ends up in the hospital for a month, and then dies... Thats interesting!

So as long as the person who wanted to know who likes flowers gets an answer, does it really matter where it goes from there?

Both examples I gave in my first post came from "Isn't Europe a Country"

its like having a conversation with someone, and then another person comes in and says "sorry, please get back to what you first started talking about".

Conversations develop! Which reminds me of that time when I was walking.... oh wait, dont want it to get moved for being off topic!

Я думаю, что это моя обязанность отделять болтовню от главной темы, только надоело каждый раз придумывать названия. Конечно, мне не трудно переименовать тему без названия, если есть предложения. Вообще, если кто-то хочет уйти от темы, почему бы не открыть новую нитку и назвать её как угодно?

Да чем плох офтоп? Считайте, что это стиль общения на данном форуме, везде свои традиции сложились (на другом форуме мне влепили предупреждение за одну офтоповую фразу, зато материться там можно сколько угодно lol.

Здесь офтоп обычно начинается после того, как на основной вопрос ответили. Так зачем что-то делить и множить БЕССМЫСЛЕННЫЕ темы (то, что было неплохо в качестве офтоповой перепалки далеко не всегда годится как основа нового топика). Они тоже уйдут в отфтоп со временем. Будете бесконечно корректировать названия или делить их на мелкие кусочки? Бред. Имхо.

Ну если уж отделяешь болтовню, то делай так чтобы хоть было понятно что/где искать. А то в теме "id hit it" оказалось недостаточно контекста и люди написали десяток постов с неправильным переводом, а про "pointless shoes" giovanni потерял тему куда ответы писать и начал спрашивать. По-моему это не намного лучше offtopic.

Я думаю потому, что уход происходит постепенно и в большинстве случаев нужен контекст/предыстория как с "id hit it". Так что может быть не обращать внимания на offtopic будет меньшим злом.

Согласна. В последнем после отрезания сообщении можно давать ссылку, например "Отпочковалась тема "Перевод выражения I'd hit it, она перенесена сюда", в первом сообщении новой темы - "Начало см. здесь".

ИМХО, это в каждой теме по-разному. Если повезёт успеть отрезать вовремя и отрезать большой офф и только офф, если ещё есть что сказать on, а в новой теме дать ссылку на старую (для тех, кто не в теме), и наоборот, то зла в самом отрезании не будет.

Как раз нет.))) Все эти люди написали свои ответы до того, как тему отрезали. Я это знаю, потому что была среди них.)) Именно контекст (телеигра) навёл их на мысли об "угадал", "попасть в точку" и пр.
И я намекнула на то, что неплохо бы тему отрезать ещё и потому, что не хотела портить кому-то веселье цитатищами с правилами.

Я не в курсе, что там было, но найти свои сообщения можно независимо от того, в какой раздел перенесена тема.
Поиск -> Поиск по автору: (свой ник) -> Показывать результаты как: Сообщения. Последние сообщения оказываются в самом начале списка.

giovanni, it's easy to find your own post, even if you cannot find the topic:
Search -> Search for Author: giovanni -> Display results as: Posts
It's even easier when you know key words.
