Is the food in Russia very different from food in America?

Yea, we do not eat so much hamburgers bigmaks and so on-). We prefer to eat potatos, soup, bread and macaroni-). And drink vodka of course

macaroni = pasta (in English)
pasta != паста

anyway, Russian food is very different from American! I should know, I've lived both places!

Also, Russians eat family-style, they prefer to have alot of different dishes on the table, and everybody helps themselves. They don't usually have dinner served on a plate. There'll be some bread, some fresh veggies, some salads, some meat, some potatoes, some cheese, and of course, some sweets!

im not big on burgers either, i love potatoes, and soup! and I can live off of macaroni and bread! but im under drinking age, haha! so no vodka for me

Pasta (including macaroni), and alot of Italian foods are the types of food I eat. In Russia, if i went to a resturant, would there be italian food, and rolls and such on the menu?

I would love to become a transferred student, and switch places with a child my age from Russia! It sounds as though the dinner-time would be great! My family had chicken breast sprinkled with lemon-pepper, and biscuits tonight. We normally just have two or three things like a main meat, and a type of bread, or vegetable for dinner. We never have dessert.

С чего ты взял, что "pasta" - это соус? Так по-английски (и по-итальянски, кстати) называют спагетти и прочие блюда в том же роде.

In America Pasta is a type of noodle dish. like Macaroni, which has a type of noodle in it.

Yes! It's quite different. I ate such delicious homemade dishes during my wonderful stay in Russia, and I can say I love Russian food, especially cutlets, Olivier salad, pelmeni and surely other dishes whose names are a bit difficult to write for me and that's why I don't mention them here... Now that I'm back to the US... I miss it very much and I have to deal with frozen pizzas, hamburgers and sodas again... hehe!

Всегда так думал . Что паста это кетчуп и другие томатные приправы, обычно в тюбиках-). А уж виды макарон это всякие там спагетти, ракушки и другие подвиды).

Да, pasta это всякие макароны, вермишель, ракушки. Но для русскоязычного человека слово pasta естественно сразу ассоциируется с обычной пастой (англ. paste).

Thats why we're not fat :P Haven't been to US yet but in UK I couldn't finish all those big plates of food most times.

I've always thought that the portions in Russia are much bigger.

When my friend came over to the US from the Urkraine I took him and his family out to dinner at Texas Land and Cattle, he was shocked at the portions and he ended up taking almost all of it home with him.

My family will occasionally have Russian food in American-size portions, which is perfect for the Russian taste buds and the American stomache.)
