    Dschinghis Khan: "Moskau"

    Поп(?)-песня «Москау» Джингиса Хана (1979 г.).

На слова, возможно, обидятся несколько россиян (патриотические больше всего).
А несомненно, этот казачок - в немецком вкусе Нью-уэйва - обида на танцевальное искусство.

In spite of my liking popular music of the 80s, DH is something I can't bear.

Actually, I remember only a couple of their songs - "Moskau" and "Dschinghis Khan".

Если других ошибок не было, может быть и так, что начну танцевать, как Чингиз-Хан.

Jeff, you sound very good, but I didn't understand "привяжет тебя к себе" и "обида на танцевальное искусство", they don't make sense for me. I can assume that the second meant "an offence against the art of dance" so it should be "оскорбление танцевального искусства", but i have no idea about the first phrase.

привяжет тебя к себе - this bit of awkwardness was my attempt to convey the sense of addiction—I learned it as an idiom and resorted to it, not knowing (and not finding in any dictionary) a Russian equivalent of the figurative meanings of addiction, captivation, etc. Apparently I would have done no worse by inventing a word like аддиктивный. :P

обида на танцевальное искусство - I wished to write about an offense/disgrace to artistic (formal) dance, and I felt оскорбление 'insult' too strong, as it implies an intent to cause outrage, does it not ? (Besides, I wanted to use the same root as in the preceding sentence—which is the sentence I expected to be considered awkward.)

Thank you for your criticisms—they have boosted my confidence. I began studying Russian about three years ago, but only to read it as it sometimes comes in handy in my research, but I've recently begun practicing composition in earnest. If I only misuse a few idioms, I'll feel relieved. (If Russian is like English, more than half of those idioms will be replaced within a few years, anyway.)

I intend to write more in Russian on this forum (after today ) because the current ratio of fifty English messages to every Russian message disturbs me somewhat.
