Don't you all know ANYTHING? Everybody knows that the US defeated Britain in the War of 1812, in 1776, led by the heroic leadership of Colin Powell. Sheesh.

Colin Farrell you wished to say? Yes Colin Farrell was a great leader of the History! He led the army of Macedonians, I didn't know he also participated in the American War for Independence.
    Я так думаю.

I hope it's not as hard as it is for Americans...
In the UK, to get a visa for Russia, you can go to the consulate, which is in the swankiest part of London, but there is always a queue.

Most people fill in the form , send off passport with form and visa invitation and

Well, that's good to know. Otherwise, there was some bizarro stuff going on -- and Putin would have ordered an investigation (you know this is his favorite website, after all).

You messed it up. You should have prefaced it with the "DUNH-DUNH-DUH!!!" sound-effect!

In 2000 my visa was just a piece of paper in 2 parts. Part 1 was removed by passport control when I arrived in Russia and part 2 was removed by passport control as I left the country. Neither of these papers were affixed to my passport. Also there was no migration card to deal with, although registration was required within 3 days of arrival. (I had to pay a $2 fine for failure to register my visa on time)
Now the visas are glued onto a page of your passport and a migration card (2 part little white paper) is requird to be carried at all times, and stamped with registration.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

In 2004 the customs people neglected to give most of my pals their migration cards. Luckily I got one.

Migration cards are available on all planes flying into Russia. If the stewardess neglects to give you one (maybe you look Russian?) you should be sure to ask and fill it out BEFORE you get to passport control.

Yeah, it's just that if it's your first time you don't think about asking for something you've never heard of before...

When I went with my dad, I was in the toilet when they handed out the cards, and being the not very intelligent man that he is, he saw the woman coming and thought she was giving out napkins or something and just gestured that he didn't want one. She obviously thought by that he meant he was Russian and didn't need one.

So we had to fill them out at the Immigration desk and hold up the very long queue.
