    the band Пурген

    hey,

I've been wandering around my new favorite website allofmp3.com and listening to music..trying to find some russian *rock* and I was just wondering what people thought of the band Пурген or knew anything about them?

    --thx

((Oh yeah, Aria isn't on allofmp3.com 0_o...but they seem to have most of their songs for download on their website))

I think the band's name is supposed to stand for "Pure Generation"

    ******************EDIT**************************** **
I actually got annoyed with the seemingly constant screaming in Пурген really quickly...

I should have probably named this thread "Where is the good Russian music?"---because the russian music scene can't truely be as barren as it seems to me...(barren of decent stuff)... I mean.... most of the time the russian music i can find doesn't even sound good(the instrumentals/beat, etc...) much less have good vocals...

Personally, I know my impression has to be wrong because there is no way this could be true(imho)... Not if I can easily find excellent sounding music(both vocally and instrumental/beat-wise) in America and Germany as well as just about any other country's music scene...

*where* is the russian music that sounds as good as metallica, rammstein, nightwish, marylin manson, einherjer, ra, l'ame immortelle, oomph, sido, outkast, snoop dogg, cake...!?!?

To tell the truth I don't know any Rammstein-like Russian band, rock here is very light, mostly pop-rock.

    I can recommend such bands:

Dolphin (rap, rock, alternative, really cool music and lyrics)
Пилот - last alboom is very hard, also try Джаконда - alternative album, but the band plays acustics as well.
Небо здесь - good alternative: my favourite song is Смерти нет http://www.nebozdes.ru

    That's all for now
    Выпей - может, выйдет толк,
    Обретешь свое добро,
    Был волчонок - станет волк,
    Ветер, кровь и серебро.

I remember hearing a song called "Убезу тебя б тундру". I liked it, but I don't know where I got it, or who wrote it. I hope this is ambiguous enough.

To tell the truth, Пурген are just russian punks. The same as Оргазм Ностродамуса, Азъ, etc. You shouldn't expect high quality of music from them.

Yeah, Пилот and Dolphin (aka Дельфин ) are really cool. I can also add
1). IFK - an alternative band. Not bad. Unfortunately doesn't exist any more.
2). Tequilajazzz. I know only 2 their albums: Стреляли - a bit similar to IFK. Целлулоид - their next album (third I guess). They became much softer and started using samples. This one is my favourite.
About Rammstein... There's so-called style "София Раммштару" (Ротару + Раммштайн). Old songs with Rammstein-like sound (personnaly I used to love Rammstein. Now I don't. Just a dist with lots of gain but no melody). Bands: НОМ (cyrillic) they've got a pretty song "Пасека" - remake of Queen's "Bicycle ride". Бони Нем.
"Кто к нам с этим этого, тот от того и того!"
    Try translating.

Here's a forum about Russian "alternative" music: http://www.ramp1.ru/forum/

Have a look at the following sections:

Группа года (Best band of the year) (note: the titles of topics are in fact the names of the bands)

Альбом года (Best album of the year)

Песня года (Best song of the year)

Открытие года (Discovery (best new band) of the year)

Вокал года (Best vocal of the year)

Клип года (Best music video of the year)

I'm sure this is not a coincidence. Anyways, being an old fart who puts skills before useless energy, I must say all these untalented new generation, testosterone intoxicated, screaming at the top of their lungs groups that tragically call themselves rock bands don't do much for me. I'm more into names like Young, Dylan, Gillan and Gilmore. If these mean anything to you, you might want to check out early Аквариум ( http://www.aquarium.ru ) and such.
