Do Americans really call America the "motherland" often though? I don't think it's a thing Enlgish speakers do.
If you say Fatherland, everyone is going to understand what it means anyway.
It used to be officially called Red Army Day, I believe. But the point is the word Отечество is a neuter noun, and shares the same root with the word for father (Отец), and Patronymic (Отчество). So...
