I dont think two books by two different people will have the same mistake made consistantly through them.

Taras Shevchenko wrote that ages and ages ago. Languages change. The fact that he used the alternate spelling of Ukraine reflects that. No-one writes Вкраїні anymore, even though it sounds the same...

In my book Ukrainian A Complete Course for Beginners, it says says в Українi.
