Well, I see that the additional vowel is inserted just in the genre that needs it. I thought that once put in the masc. it should be kept in every genre. So in южный I see: южен, южнa: южно, южны....

Making exercises on short forms of adjectives I find достойный; достоин, достойна.... Surely some rule makes necessary this и in masc. and not a й like one could wait. And it would be of application...
